Day 42
One of the Menzies staff wrote on my marked cards that Angel's walk beside walkers. So true. After being undecided Christmas day a car turned up at the Bennett road camp. A lovely German couple, along with their elderly father said they would take me to Tauramanui. How lucky was that as Bennett road was 5 km off the main road in the middle of nowhere. Kelly motel had a vacancy and the BP hot chicken and chips so that was me sorted. I managed to catch up with all the family and do some washing. Today my first stop was a laundromat to dry my bra, nickers and socks. I then spent a long time with the lovely ladies at the I centre and made lots of bookings and sorted my plans. I cannot do a day trip on the Whanganui river as jet boats or kayaking require you to be at Whakahoro or Pipiriki and that is just too much out of my way and no transport from Tauramanui. I walked to the campground which is 4 km out of town. It was fine when I left but then a sudden violent torrential rain storm hit. The water was centimeters deep on the road and I was a drowned rat with wet everything. As I reached the camp the sun came out and I was able to dry my clothes. It's a bit hard when you have minimal clothing. Fortunately I booked a cabin. I went for a walk along the Whanganui river to a settlement called Manawanui and then just chilled out. My body needs a bit of RnR. I just liked the sign, reminds me of Pete Cade classic songs. Tauramanui on the main trunk line
