Day 28

The day began with a trip to the dairy to get a Bee card and some lunch. Robyn and Logan dropped me off at the start of the Hakarimata walk which saved me about 8 km of road walking. The walk began with a lot of stairs and a well formed walk way up to a kauri grove. It then became a serious tramping track. It was good in places but at other points very muddy, steep and lots of clambering over tree roots and rough terrain. I was pleased to only have a day pack as I left my pack at Robyn's. The Swiss girls who I first met before Helena Bay passed me. Finally I reached the summit and the views over the Waikato were epic. It was then down hill to Ngaruawahia. There were 1479 stairs to walk down. No I didn't count them but I was speaking with a guy who did the Haka challenge. 20 times up and down in 24 hours as a fundraiser. The walk down had lots of inspirational quotes and it then took us to the old dam that used to be Ngaruawahia water supply. I arrived at the bus depot in perfect time. It had just started to rain and I only had 5 minutes to wait for a bus. I used my Bee card and it cost $ 4 to get back to Huntly. I walked back to Robyn's and was met by Logan on his bike. Fish n chips for tea.
